For Sama is an award-winning documentary directed by Waad Al-Kateab and Edward Watts, following Waad's life as a journalist in besieged Aleppo during the Syrian Civil War. Told as a letter to her daughter, Sama, the film offers a deeply personal account of love, resilience, and survival amid conflict. Premiering at SXSW in 2019, it won both the Grand Jury and Audience Awards, became the most BAFTA-nominated documentary in history, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature.
